  • Palazzo dei Papi

The Palazzo dei Papi is the most important historical monument in the city of Viterbo. Built in the thirteenth century, the Palace is a typical example of Viterbo’s Gothic style, crowned with battlements and open windows.
The palace was a papal residence for most of the fourteenth century. The “Conclave” room is of great artistic interest and now houses temporary exhibitions and installations.

  • Basilica di San Lorenzo

The Cathedral of San Lorenzo in Viterbo is the city’s main church. It has an imposing Romanesque structure dating from the twelfth century, although the facade, due to alterations in the sixteenth century, reflects Renaissance style.

  • Medieval quarter of San Pellegrino

It is the symbol of the ancient medieval city. The quarter still retains its appearance and is an amazing collection of all types of the thirteenth century constructions: towers, squares, arches, streets and alleys and houses with the characteristic “profferli” (external stairs). The House of Alessandri stands out among these for its size and complexity. You can enjoy a beautiful view of great historical and urban value from the tower above the Romanesque church of San Pellegrino.
The quarter is often enlivened by antique and flower markets (such as the San Pellegrino in Fiore market) and folk festivals. The streets are mainly occupied by art shops, antique stores, eateries and cultural halls.

  • Palazzo dei Priori

The Palazzo dei Priori is at the heart of the city of Viterbo, in Piazza del Plebiscito.
The property is home to the Viterbo town hall, but originally was designed to accommodate the residence of the papal governor.
The facade we see today was built in Renaissance style, with two rows of windows, the lower Guelph-cross and the upper arch windows. The coat of arms of Pope Sixtus IV della Rovere (1481) is at the center.
In the four rooms on the first floor (Hall of Madonna, Royal room, Council room, room of landscapes) you can admire the ‘ 500 frescoes.
From the beautiful courtyard with an arcade of the seventeenth century, one can enjoy views of the verdant Faul Valley.

  • Piazza del Plebiscite

Dominated by the Clock Tower with two lions, a symbol of the city, carved into a stone called "nenfro" at the corners, Piazza del Plebiscito (which everyone in Viterbo calls the Town Square) is the heart of the city.
The square is enclosed on three sides by the facades of buildings that belonged to the Priors in the past centuries (now the town hall), the Podestà and Capitano del Popolo (seat of the Prefecture).

La piazza e' chiusa, su tre lati, dalle facciate dei palazzi che appartennero nei secoli passati ai Priori (oggi sede del Comune), al Podestà e al Capitano del Popolo (sede della Prefettura).
